Moxa, known as Mugwort in English and Artemesia Vulgaris in Latin, is dried mugwort rolled up tightly and wrapped in paper to form a cigar-like stick primarily used to treat a deficiency of 'yang' energy in the body. It is yang energy that governs movement and warmth. A deficiency of yang results in cold symptoms. Moxa can be held in one place, rotated in circles, or 'pecked' over an acupuncture point.
Moxa Therapy is especially useful for treating:
Pain: One of moxa's active components borneol, is commonly used in topical therapies for its antiseptic and analgesic effects.
-Arthritis and other painful joint conditions
-Tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, or repetitive strain injuries
-Sprains and Strains: Speeds healing of damaged tissue
-Muscle tension or stiffness: moxa relaxes tension and increases circulation
-Decrease swelling and inflammation
Reproductive: Research has shown that moxa acts as an agent that increases blood circulation to the pelvic area and uterus and regulates menstruation.
-Menstrual cramps and pelvic inflammatory disease
-Enhance fertility via increased circulation of blood to the uterus
-Turn breech babies to a normal position
-Reduce intensity and duration of labor pains
-Labor induction
General:
-Reduce the appearance of old scars
-Boost immune system for cold and flu treatment and prevention
-Chronic automimune-related illness
-Open bronchial airways for asthma
-Digestive disorders such as IBS and diarrhea
-Gastric, abdominal, or intestinal pains
-Fatigue
